What Is It?

Aluminum Chloride occurs as a pale yellow solid. Aluminum Chloride is used mainly in the formulation of personal cleanliness products.

Why Is It Used?

Aluminum Chloride is an ingredient that is applied to the skin to reduce the production of perspiration at the site of application, to induce a tightening or tingling sensation of the skin and to reduce or eliminate unpleasant odor and that protect against the formation of such odors on the skin.

Safety Information

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reviewed the safety of Aluminum Chloride and has approved the use of this ingredient in Over-the-Counter (OTC) antiperspirant products. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) has deferred evaluation of this ingredient because the safety has been assessed by FDA. This deferral of review is according to the provisions of the CIR Procedures.

In antiperspirant OTC drug products, the FDA allows the use of Aluminum Chloride at concentrations up to 15% in aqueous solution in non-aerosol dosage forms.
