Acid yellow 1, when certified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is referred to as Ext. yellow 7 and can be used in coloring externally applied cosmetics. Please refer to Ext. yellow 7 for more information on the certified color.

The European Scientific Committee on Cosmetic Products and Non-Food Products Intended for Consumers (SCCNFP) concluded that more information is required to assess the safety of acid yellow 1 as it is used in hair dye products.
Acid yellow 1 is listed as CI 10316 in the Cosmetics Directive of the European Union and may be used as a coloring agent in all cosmetics and personal care products except those intended to be applied in the vicinity of the eyes, particularly eye makeup and eye makeup remover (See Annex IV).
