Safety Information
The Expert Panel for Cosmetic Ingredient Safety reviewed available safety data of 11 coconut-derived ingredients as used in cosmetic and personal care products in 2023, concluding the following 10 ingredients are safe in the present practices of use and concentration in cosmetics:

The Expert Panel concluded the available data were insufficient to determine the safety under the intended conditions of use for Cocos Nucifera (coconut) shell powder.
The Expert Panel noted the cosmetics industry should continue to use current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) to limit the potential presence of pesticideSubstances that destroy or repel pests, or that prevent or mitigate the effects of pests. In the United States, pesticides for use in consumer products, including cosmetics, must be registered and approved by the EPA. residues, heavy metals and other plant species that may be present in botanical ingredients.
All coconut-derived ingredients reviewed by the Expert Panel in 2021 are included in the EU’s Inventory of Cosmetic Ingredients (CosIng). According to the general provisions of the Cosmetics Regulation of the European UnionUnder the general provisions of the cosmetics regulation of the EU, ingredients appearing on the following function-specific annexes must comply with the listed restrictions and/or specifications: colorants (Annex IV), preservatives (Annex V), UV filters (Annex VI) and other ingredients with specific concentration limits and/or other restrictions (Annex III). Ingredients specifically prohibited from use in cosmetic products are listed in Annex II. Other ingredients listed in the EU cosmetic ingredient database (CosIng) may be used without restrictions., there are no restrictions on these ingredients as cosmetics ingredients.
