The Personal Care Products Council (the Council) and its member companies sponsor this Web site to provide consumers with easily accessible comprehensive safety information on cosmetics and personal care products and to help consumers make informed purchases.This Web site contains information about the safety, testing, and regulation of cosmetics and personal care products and their ingredients. The site is divided into two primary sections; safety information pages and an ingredient database. Safety information pages give an overview of how cosmetics are regulated in the U.S. and abroad, components of cosmetic ingredient labeling, the authority of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to regulate cosmetics, and how companies ensure the safety and efficacy of their products. Right now in laboratories across the country and around the world, experts in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular modeling, engineering, formulation and toxicology are at work stringently testing and assessing ingredients and formulas for safety, quality, stability, purity, skin efficacy and performance.

However, our aim is to continue to add additional ingredients to the site until all 4,000 ingredients commonly used in cosmetic and personal care products are referenced.
